Present

“Stay close to me.” Zod kept his hand on the Lana’s arm so that he could keep it out of danger. He had no leash on him. They headed to the helicopter he kept on top of the building he’d appropriated for his base of operations. He’d kept it available to avoid problems transporting his pet, but now that he was pregnant, he wanted to be sure that his powers would remain stable during flight before leaping off of a building.

“I’ve been thinking, Lex. You still look pale… and these headaches. I think you should see a doctor.”

He was barely listening to it. There was something going on up on the roof. Someone was there. Three someones, whispering.

“Be quiet,” he ordered. She looked at him in shock and indignation. “Stay behind me.”

“What’s going on?” She moved behind him regardless.

“I told you to be quiet. I’m listening to them.” It clung to him as he listened. After a moment, he turned to her. “Stay where you are. I’m going to take care of them.”

It nodded, and he sped up the stairs. They didn’t even have time to look in his direction before he pushed the chunk of meteor rock out of the old one’s hand with a telekinetic blast. It shot over the edge of the building and out of range to be a danger to him and his fetus.

“What exactly did you hope to accomplish here?” He surveyed the stunned group of humans. He considered setting them on fire.

“Okay, now what?” There were two females, as far as he could tell for this species. She was the taller of the two, with high cheekbones and long wavy hair. Not beautiful, but striking and too familiar. His composure broke. He did not care.

“Lara?” The group looked at him with surprise as he approached and regarded her incredulously. She stepped back defensively.

“NO. It’s Lois, not Lara.”

On closer inspection it wasn’t her at all. Lara’s mouth had been wider and thinner. Her eyes more keenly aware of her surroundings. Both eyes and hair were darker and her bone structure more delicate. Lara’s strength had emanated from within. One felt it when drawing near her. This creature looked as though it wanted to pounce on him and prove its dominance.

“Well, then. Lois.” He let the word draw out slowly as he stalked closer to them. The wind on the rooftop lifted up her hair and fluttered his long black coat. “Is there a reason you came here to meet with me?”

It was frightened. He could smell it. Still, it refused to back up further. It wanted dearly to be strong. Zod could help it with that.

“We came to help you, Lex.” The older human broke in and stepped between him and Lois. It looked rather bedraggled, like a wizened feline caught in a rainstorm. This creature wasn’t afraid, but it was shifty and over enunciated its words. It raised its hand face level. “Now… we brought the meteor rock to subdue Zod, son, not to hurt you. You must listen to us and let us help fix this.”

“Son? You were this Vessel’s bearer?” He tilted his head and looked over it critically. “Your progeny is dead, bearer. You’ve merely come here to follow it to the grave.”

He walked over to the old thing and picked it up by the collar, holding it aside as he looked over the human that resembled Lara. It shivered unconsciously as he moved to cup its face in his hand. A memory triggered from the Vessel’s remaining hours.

He was moving so fast he could barely control what direction he was headed. He had no idea where he was now. He’d sped right through a tree a moment ago without being phased at all. Nothing seemed real outside the wheeling blur of the world.

Abruptly everything stopped, and he flailed to free himself from the tangle of matter around him. Bricks. Wood. He looked up through the debris, bewildered.

“What the hell?”

Strong feminine hands on him. Pulling him out.

“Are you okay?”

“Lois?” He looked so confused and lost that Lois held back commentary about his obvious boozing and started to check him over.

“Talk to me, Warbucks. You just crashed through a wall.”

He jumped away from her. “Don’t… don’t touch me.” He tried to straighten and compose himself. “I-I’m fine.”

“Um. Okay.” She looked through the hole in the wall. He stood up and looked around him.

“Oh. This isn’t where I wanted to be.”

“Inside a wall? I’d guess not.” She walked back over to him. He frowned at her suit. It seemed out of place. Memories were triggering in his brain. This is who he was. This is who she was. This is how they interact.

“That’s none of your business.”

“Look, Luthor, I don’t have time for this. I have to go with Martha- what are you doing?”

He was walking closer to her, his eyes roaming madly. He reached up to touch her hair.

“The hair’s not for sale,” she said gently. His eyes met hers, entreating her for answers. “I think you need to go to a hospital. You look like you might be in shock…”

“I might be. This isn’t how this part goes.”

“What?”

"I don't touch you like this." He touched her neck, and she felt overwhelmed. Lois had never even found this man attractive before. He was a jerk and a control freak. He was funny looking. Bald and skinny in the wrong places and his face was too long and too feminine and there was a bump on the back of his head…

And then he was kissing her. Something in him knew this reaction was not right. The script was not being followed and his physical attraction to her should be suppressed and catalogued for a later more appropriate date when it coincided with a larger plan. He was shaking as he held her, and she struggled to get away, but just for a moment. Lois felt herself yielding to his touch, remembering the sweet things Lana had said about him. But it was more than that. There was something different in his being. It was a scent or a glamour that was simply intoxicating. That she couldn’t say no to.

No, that wasn’t true. She could say no. She just didn’t want to right now.

“Hrr hrrr hrrr!” Zod laughed. It was an alien, weird noise. “You copulated with it. You had sex with the Vessel.”

“What’s going on?” The Lana creature had ventured out of hiding and frowned at the scene before it. The small blond human ran over to her.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

“Lex wouldn’t hurt me, Chloe,” it shot back heatedly.

“That isn’t Lex,” Chloe hissed back.

“I did not. You! No I didn’t.” Lois looked away with shame. Zod’s smile was thin and cruel.

“Oh… but you did. You had sex with it.” He dropped the Vessel’s bearer to the ground. It brushed itself off and turned to him.

“It had a name! He was Lex. Alexander Luthor.”

“Would you like to know about how people procreate on my planet?” Zod continued to grin eerily.

“Lex!” the Lana protested in disgust.

“He was my son.” The bearer grabbed his sleeved. Zod brushed him off impatiently.

“And I have told you that your son is dead. It has been for some time now. Your words ring hollow. Or do you forget I have its memories?” Zod was unamused by their infantile theatrics. He had plans for the day, and they were bothering him. “The process used to create the Vessel leaves nothing salvageable from the original. Nothing human would have survived. What was returned to you may have seemed like your son, but I assure you, it was empty inside.”

Chloe and the Lana were whispering together. He heard a sob. Zod looked up and shot from his eyes a ring of fire around the other three so that they could not interfere. “Be good. Stay.”

He turned back to Lois. “Meaning of course, that you had sex with a shell. I find that immensely amusing. Do you routinely copulate with creatures that have no consciousness? I rather think having sex with an animal would be more respectable.”

Lois felt her face turn red. She’d known when it happened that she would regret it, but she hadn’t expected to have an audience for it. “I didn’t know he… He was giving off some kind of vibe.”

“I’ve been told that I am irresistible when I want something.” Zod began to circle Lois quietly, slowly. “Do you feel it now?”

“I…” Her lip curled remembering the frenzied sex just before getting on the plane with Mrs. Kent. It had disturbed her before, since Lex had seemed so out of it. Now she was fairly horrified that she had given in. “No, not really.”

He ignored her lie. “Generally, my people use a combination of gene splicing and an artificial womb to create our young. No mistakes that way. It’s very clean and rational.” He paused for a moment behind her and smelled her hair while working the Vessel’s probably actions over in his mind. Strange animals they were. There were chemicals and bacteria all over them. “However, before our rise as the scientific capital of the galaxy, we used to mate in triads. Still do, for recreation. A female would share two males. There were and are other arrangements, of course, of all kinds. To spawn, though, this would be what was required. The rituals involved all three members at once, but if the triad didn’t get along well… the female could deposit her egg and leave the males to finish without her. Three genetic strands. Very strong DNA for our people. Superior DNA that would survive almost anything.”

“What are you talking about?” She glared at him and raised her chin defiantly. He grinned eerily.

“You are coming with me.” Zod grabbed her hair so violently her head snapped back and pulled her close to him. Lois locked eyes with him and saw the quiet, unhinged malice therein. She’d had enough training to know when disobeying an order would kill her. “You aren’t Lara, but you’ll do for my purposes. And you will certainly survive longer than the Vessel’s weak little pet over there.”

AN: So for those keeping track, we have Lois the egg donor, Zod as the bearer, and we still need the other father. They’re kind of like seahorses, only they work in threes, which usually means sandwiching one of the males to knock him up, but can mean fetching the egg and then finding a third a little bit later to finish fertilization.

Which sounds like a very clinical way to say, Vessel!Lex got him some mad manlove before Zod possessed him.

Yes, Zod left them surrounded by FIRE.
