thanks, sweetie. i probably shouldn't have gotten all bitchy about it, but that kind of attitude doesn't help anymore than the public school system does. that's the real plight of the single mom right there. a lack of education that can help prevent such things from happening.

it would be good if men learned how to step up, but it isn't there problem so why should they worry about it?

thanks for the huggles. as you can see, this is a sore subject for me.

I think this guy's comments show him to be uneducated or deliberately ignorant. With the divorce rate we have in this country, there's a damn good chance that any mother will wind up being a single parent at some point even if she was married when she had her child(ren). I've been a single parent myself. I was college educated and working full time. I was also making just a little bit too much money to qualify for any of the public assistance I looked into ( ... )

well, i do have to point out that Huckabee is from Arkansas. the only good thing that this man has ever actually done that i know of is live in a trailer when the Governor's Mansion in Arkansas needed repairs. (unlike Texas' illustrious governor, but that's another rant entirely)

i guess the whole thing about it all is that these fuck nuts make these broad, general, sweeping statements and ignore the fact that there are some single parents out there (not just moms) who didn't think they'd be single and there are some who are doing better than these people really believe. again... having a man and a woman together to raise a child is as ridiculous a requirement as having more money than god. it doesn't mean dick in the end.

thanks, hon. it means alot. i probably shouldn't let these idjits get to me. but for fuck's sake. i was pregnant when Dan Quayle said it and i didn't like it much back then. i sure as shit don't like it now.

I know I've told you time and again how much I respect you for the wonderful job you've done raising your son. I can only hope I do half the job you were able to with mine. *hugs*

As for these comments. I find it incredibly ironic that they come from well off, white men who will never have to be a "poor uneducated single mother". Seriously, what the fuck do they know about it? Obviously nothing.

thanks, honey. i've had a few people say that to me. i've also gotten "I don't know if I could do it." which is kind of weird, because its just something you do. sometimes the presence of a father figure is worse than not having him there. like i said, not every person who can get pregnant/get someone pregnant can be a true mom or dad.

it is kind of funny that we always hear about the plight of the single mom from well off, rich white men, isn't it? *hugs* again, thanks. your comments mean muchly.

Man, I am so behind on everything....

You are a great mom, and this guy is an idiot. Fuck him and the whore he rode in on. Seriously. Being a single mom is tough. It's not glamorous, and I don't recall seeing anyone trying to make it look glamorous. Not Murphy Brown (yeah, I remember that) and not Natalie Portman (honestly, I didn't even know she was pregnant?). It may not be the ideal situation, but it happens. A lot. It's not the end of the world.

I know there's prejudice. I experienced it with my oldest spawn even though Trae and I were living together, just because we didn't have that stupid slip of paper.... It's ridiculous.

thing is, you'll never hear a man talking about how unglamorous it is for a man to be a single father. never. because obviously there's nothing wrong with a man being a single parent.

i think that there's far too much importance placed on that piece of paper. thank you for that, organized religion. marriage doesn't determine whether one is a good, successful parent. there are married couples who struggle to provide for their kids. there are single parents who don't. it depends on where you look.

thanks for the vote of confidence, hon. sometimes i wonder. but he is a pretty good kid and he hasn't really ever done anything bad. so i guess i'm doing okay where he's concerned.
