- The transmission died and needed replacing.

- The ignition wires burnt and needed replacing.

- My license plate bulb burnt out, which got me pulled overAnd late last night, a tire popped. I need to replace it today. (Bless AAA ( Read more... )

AAA Gold membership is a wondrous thing. You get unlimited towing for free!

Use it enough, and they take away your gold membership.

I hope I never get to that point!

What is it with cars lately? I just spent nearly $200 on getting a new battery and oil change for my car today as it died on me Saturday night!

I'm jealous about the AAA response. In my region, they often won't even call the nearest garage for a couple hours.

The last time I called it was thankfully ultimately unnecessary. I was calling because damage to a decorative cap prevented both its removal and the underlying lug-nut. I was able to pry the offending plastic away enough after half an hour, an effort undertaken when it became clear that they could/would only deal with us if we could give them a location along a major (three-digit or fewer) state route. We were on a four-digit one, which are unique only within a county. So, SR 1001 could have nearly seventy incarnations.

Yay for the warranty. Road-hazard for tires is one of the few extended warranties I buy, mostly because it's rather cheap. Having had several tires replaced under it I'm way ahead on total cost.

Believe me, I was stunned they showed up as quickly as they did! I guess it's because it was 10:30 at night. When my transmission died back in 2004, I had to wait nearly 2 hours in 90-degree heat before they showed up. (They'd made me a priority because I was on the freeway, but the highway patrol's tow truck showed up first and towed me to a side street. AAA then decided I was no longer a priority and moved me to the bottom of the list.)
