So they'll end up on Earth, then?

This is very interesting, I can't wait to see where it goes.

Heh! If Jack says "absolutely not" there's a good chance the Doctor will... ignore him, yes.

I'm glad you're enjoying this! Thanks for reviewing!

I'm bouncing up and down to see a new chapter of this!

So now we know the timeline, and poor Rose! :( Losing the other Doctor, so soon after being dumped by this one, and now sick and dying. Good for her for insisting that the Doctor find Jack, though. He really needed to have sense bashed into his head if he didn't go and look for Jack after the 456.

And Jack, still using humour and self-aggrandisement as a defence mechanism:

“Why don't you want to come?”

Jack smirked. “Because I've gotten pretty good at self-destruction, and I imagine you and the Doctor would get in the way of my habit.”

“Be serious.” Rose's voice gentle, but firm. “Why don't you want to come?”

“You ever heard that expression, 'you can't go home?'” Jack waited for her affirmative nod. “It's like that. That part of my life's over. You know I'm willing to do anything to help you, Doc. I just can't go... tearing around the universe haphazardly anymore.”After being so emphatic here, though, I was surprised that he gave in so easily. Not unhappy at all, though ( ... )

I think from now on you can pretty much rely on Wednesday chapters. That will help keep me honest.

Rose really needs Jack around, I think you'll see as time goes on. She needs that other part of the equation -- someone who understands the quandry of being human.

It's definitely going to be a rough, bouncy journey. I hope you enjoy it!

Wow--nothing to distract one from one's own misfortunes like finding out about someone else's. I like the unspoken signals between Jack and the Doctor. And I quite liked this:

“Is it the horribly hopeless, hotter than hell, completely depressing type of desert?” Jack asked, laying his hands on his hips.

“Well... sort of. Depends on the century,”

It just made me giggle.

I'll admit that I don't think this story would have gone quite this direction if my life weren't relatively tumultuous at the moment. I tend to up the level of drama in my stories in direct proportion to how crappy I feel. Escapism at its worst best.

I'm glad you're enjoying this and the characterizations of everyone -- I'm trying hard to stay honest to who the characters were at this point in the timeline as much as possible.

Some grapes are purple. :-p

But, oof, poor TenII. I doubt they even got that close before the poor guy died, if it was that soon! And gah! Rose. D: I'm really curious where it's going to go from here!

One question, though: thousands of years for Jack? Did I miss something somewhere? You also might want to add a link to the prologue, in case someone missed it.

Thousands of years for Jack is a reference to the amount of time he spent underground during the S2 finale of Torchwood... He's quite old, if you think about it. I'll definitely add a link to the prologue! I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for commenting!

Haha, my fault, then. I tend to pretend that never happened in the finale, or at least that Jack was unconscious the whole time. Otherwise, it makes my head hurt that he's not a raving lunatic. XD

LOL, God bless Torchwood.

I might have a fully-functioning brain, otherwise.

Shouldn't be reading this from work but SIMPLY COULD NOT WAIT. As always you don't disappoint.

Intrigue, hints of upcoming tragedy, the relationship between them and the things they'd do for each other all wrapped up in this chapter... gorgeous!

More Please!
