Yes, lots of people get fired, and for all sorts of reasons. It's not a career-killer. There are many ways to handle it in job-searching, as someone already said. Yes, don't use your ex-boss as a reference. If you're asked in an interview why you left your last job, don't lie; tell the truth - they'll respect that - and don't try to put all the blame on your ex-boss. Say that you've learned from the experience (that always goes across well) and that there are things you'd do differently now. There are several websites (including Monster's very good interview centre) that suggest good answers and explanations for discussing this in an interview ( ... )
