I received a really wonderful fic this year: smiling, smiling, The Bone Key. Claudia takes the lead in a spooky yet hopeful casefic, and deepens her friendship with Kyle. Full of well-researched history, and with a great representation of Claudia's courage.

"These Roads" gave me such flashbacks to summer camp on a college campus in Indiana--it's a lot like Ohio but not quite, so the sense of home but not quite home was just visceral. Homesickness and anti-homesickness.
Funny story: this is the same summer camp where two friends taught me D&D. One friend was like, "You know, some people are against D&D, they say it's 'satanic' or something. Not that I agree with them, but they say these spells are, like, real spells." And my other friend was like, "Dude, if these were real spells, do you think we'd be here in fuckin' Indiana?"
