Somewhat ironically, I always refer to Anchorage as "the big city." (Fairbanks is "the college town" and Girdwood is "the posh resort that I go to and regret").

Well, it's on the "road system" (and railroad) so to bush Alaska, it is in the middle of everything.

Ironically, they do manage to ship out rappers to the bush every now and then.
