Soooo I always hate asking this question because it seems stupid to take such excellent books and focus only on the love triangle aspect of them, but I'm always genuinely curious to see what people think about this:
Yeah I was Team Gale for maybe like 30 seconds right at the beginning of the first book because I was unsure about whether the fact that Peeta is the sweetest boy on the face of the planet would translate into him being boring, but I dropped that almost immediately. I actually find it remarkable that Peeta is such a likeable, three-dimensional character considering how just absurdly kind he is. And while Gale has the whole sex appeal thing going to him, I feel like it was super obvious where Collins was headed with this. Katniss didn't need someone exactly like her, she needed someone optimistic like Peeta to balance her out.
I actually thought the whole love triangle was totally unnecessary because I thought there was enough going on with Katniss trying to separate her real feelings for Peeta from the ones she was feigning to sustain the entire romantic subplot of the three books. Oh well.
Dude, it's scary how quickly/hard I fell for Katniss/Peeta. To the point where whenever she kissed or did anything remotely romantic with Gale I was actually exclaiming "NO! NOT HIM! IT'S PEETA!!" But I still tried to keep my hopes down as best I could, fearing a repeat of Harry/Hermione.
Falling in love while pretending to be in love - it's such a common trope, but Collins used it beautifully. Instead of Katniss falling head-over-heels quickly, the very premise forces her - already mistrustful by nature - to question just how much is real and how much is an act. But even with all that questioning, what remains consistent is how very highly she regards him, how much she worries/fears for him.
And Peeta himself - like mmichelle, I'm amazed how Collins made such a consistently kind and noble individual three-dimensional and genuinely likable. Gale... I don't hate (or love) him, but I definitely think Katniss needs someone not nearly so bitter as she/Gale are.
Yeah. From the very start I was ALL about Peeta. The boy with the bread, omg.
What I liked about the hijacking was that it stopped being easy for Katniss - she not only had to decide, but she had to fight for him, fight her way back to him.
The first times they talked after the hijacking, when he was so cold and almost cruel? Wrenched my heart to little bits.

Which book was your favorite? Least favorite?

Favorite book? The first one. It's such a taut, lean page-turner. The last two become somewhat less focused, more meandering.
I'm trying to put together a more detailed reaction post, but my thoughts are still pretty scattered.

And Mockingjay has one of the few sentences guaranteed to send chills down my spine..."My children, who don't know they play on a graveyard."
