CW 2x07 - Legacy of Terror; new LJ layout

Nov 21, 2009 13:09

Between this week's episode and the preview for next week, I'm wondering if these episodes weren't originally planned as a Halloween offering. Zombie warriors? Mind-controlling worms? Is this X-Files or Star Wars? That said, I enjoyed this episode, though not as much as last week's.

Whoa...wait a second. I hope I didn't read what I think I just read..

TWILIGHT IS STAR WARS FOR GIRLS?!?!?!?!?

I'm so insulted, I'm practically speechless.

And I'm actually a fan of "Twilight"...but...there are so many things wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin...

There's a link to the original article here. I can't bring myself to read the whole thing; it doesn't go one sentence without backhanding SW. Fuck that. It seems the media is always trying to push something as the "new SW" - LotR, Reboot!Trek, HP, now this. It just strikes me as yet another way to attempt to backhand SW, by implying its time is gone and these new things have pushed it by the wayside. Again I say, fuck that.

Star Wars is Star Wars. These new series come and go, but SW is still as iconic as it ever was. No tween vampire series is going to change that.

As I commented in LP's rant on this, SW has a cross-gender appeal; the girl side's just largely ignored. Twilight... not so much; it's predominantly a girl thing.

I suppose my initial reaction to the various developments underground was feeling amused at all the different concepts being referenced, seeing the mind-control worms as an obvious Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan homage, then picking up on "zombies" (it all seemed creepy enough to me), and then seeing that "at last," the Geonosians have an egg-laying "queen" just like so many other "insectile" species in science fiction... but I could probably say that the Obi-Wan and Anakin interaction in the episode was the real "meat" of it. In fact, for some reason I started thinking that Obi-Wan's "let's keep pushing on" approach early on in the catacombs was somehow an intriguing inversion of the way I'd expect him to act, and maybe that feeling carried through to his later schemes too, for all that I can say they also could be said to be perfectly in character...

(By the way, I do approve of your new layout.)

Yeah, they did manage to cram quite a few homages in there.

The horror stuff I can take or leave, but the A/O interaction is what helped keep my interest. The dearth of character stuff is why I had trouble watching 'Point Rain;' at least here, we had good interplay/contrast between our two main characters, and Luminara too.

Yay for your new layout!

I have yet to post my review of "Legacy of Terror." It kind of reminded me of "Aliens," and it did feel like a special Halloween episode. Easily the creepiest episode they've done.

Best line was Obi-Wan's "You're always thinking with your lightsaber." ROTFLMAO!

Oh yeah, mind definitely went in the gutter at that line. *g*

I love the new layout. It's gorgeous. And... is that Leia in Mord-Sith gear?

Thanks! :)

I found the artwork on Wookieepedia; I believe it's supposed to be a scene from Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Which, yeah, I know, weird book, but it was gorgeous art and I loved the idea/visual of Leia wielding her old man's lightsaber, even if only briefly.

Looks like it's from the cover of the comic version they did for Splinter of the Mind's Eye - they did some gorgeous covers for that series.

It is from the cover art done for the Splinter of the Mind's Eye comics.

Twilight is "SW for Girls"
WTF! Sexist bastards.
There are PLENTY of girl SW fans.
In fact I can say I know MORE female SW fans than male.

*snerk* at your icon. ;)

I think SW fandom is more equal along gender lines than most people think. Fanfiction as a general rule is dominated by women, and women certainly aren't a rarity at SW cons/premieres. Certainly not to the extent a guy would be at a Twilight or even a HP con.

LOL, thanks. It's the most appropriate one for the topic.

I agree. *nods*
