Yes, I totally should be studying. But...

...time for (yet another) break. I'm actually not too worried about the exam right now... I'm not really having trouble understanding anything in my review notes; it's just a matter of remembering them outside the notes tomorrow. ;)

I hope this doesn't distract you too much from studying, but I found myself somehow intrigued by your comment "My ultimate OTP has been canon since 1980"; the particular year seemed unusual at first glance... then, I managed to come up with a reason why, but still with the awareness that perhaps I've got it all wrong anyway.

If you'll forgive a comment from one member of the opposite gender, I seem to try to stay away from pairing fictional characters off in my mind, and that feeling has grown from witnessing many wide-ranging examples... if a pairing is an actual factor in the story, it's possible indeed that I'll be just fine with it, but perhaps I think "friendship" should be allowed to stay itself, too.

Yep, I'm considering ESB the point in which Anakin/Padme was established - since Vader likely had to have been non-cyborg and involved with a woman to be Luke's dad. ;)

I don't consciously set out to pair anyone off either - many of my fandoms I don't ship at all, and in the ones I do, it's probably why so many of my "preferred" pairs are canon ones. Sheer laziness, really: "Hmm, so this is apparently the way they're going... do I like it or not? OK, moving on." And even on the pairs I like, I've only gotten emotionally involved with two or three enough to do things like write fanfic. (In the case of my big non-canon ship, Harry Potter/Luna Lovegood, it also wasn't a completely conscious choice: I found I didn't like the canon alternative, but that I did love the HP/LL friendship and thought it would also make a wonderful romantic one.)

but perhaps I think "friendship" should be allowed to stay itself, too.Absolutely. In fact, a great deal of my favorite "ships" are friendship/platonic ones where I would be (or have been) ( ... )

I suppose that my first thought was a mixture of "'Mrs. Skywalker' seemed as implied to me in Star Wars itself as in TESB" with "she didn't actually get mentioned until Return of the Jedi"... However, it is sort of interesting to realise that The Empire Strikes Back established among other things the possibility that a pretty major issue for "Luke's parents" would have been Dad being Darth Vader... (At the same time, I do find myself thinking of the old theories that "Mrs. Skywalker's" reaction to her husband's fall would be to run as fast and as far as possible ( ... )

I usually ship canon pairings myself. Buffy/Angel? Check. Ross/Rachel? Check. Chandler/Monica? Check. Mulder/Scully? Check. Anakin/Padmé? Check. Han/Leia? Check. And I could go on and on like this... But I'm usually a one pairing type of person, I hated the whole Buffy/Spike thing or Rachel/Joey in Friends, so sometimes I don't like canon pairings ( ... )
