So what church/denomination will you be trying out? Sorry the UU church didn't have much going on. The amount going on varies wildly from one congregation to another.

It's a Congregational/United Church of Christ. Between their LGBTQ-welcoming credo, hosting of citywide interfaith holiday dinners, and their minister being one of the most outspoken liberals in OK, I can just imagine my stepmom's head exploding at the thought. XD (I still inwardly grumble to myself when I remember the look on Dad's face when he hesitatingly asked if I still went to "that Unitarian church.") Though of course that's not why we're looking there. ;)

I just looked at the UU church's calendar and it looks like they are finally restarting the Young Adult group that fizzled out shortly after I went there, but it meets when I have class. D'OH! Maybe I'll try it again come winter break.

UCC is a liberal Christian denomination. They have partnered with the UUA in the past; the lifespan sexuality curriculum Our Whole Lives is a joint UUA/UCC product. If I were Christian I might join UCC. And of course, the Obamas are UCC :)

I don't consider myself particularly Christian, but there aren't a terrible lot of liberal churches to choose from here, obviously. ;) And like I said to Marie, maybe looking at that religion from the POV of a church that doesn't seem to hate half of humanity might help my opinion of it.

Beliefwise, if I had to choose a religion UU would still be the closest to me, so I may give the church here another crack at some point.

Thanks. :)

It's a Congregational/United Church of Christ. It seems to be one of the more openly liberal churches in the state. Maybe approaching Christianity from the standpoint of a church that doesn't demonize those it doesn't like will soften my heart a little toward it.
