...Again.

I get in to my car to go to work - and it won't start. No headlights, doesn't even try to turn over, nada. Oddly enough, my schizophrenic doorlocks seem to still have some power - in fact, as I watch, the door I manually lock actually unlocks itselfMy stepdad's theory is that if my weirdly possessed doorlocks were whirring all weekend ( Read more... )

I hope your car issues get sorted soon and inexpensively. We've been having them with our older car recently, too.

*hugs*

Yeah, sounds like the battery to me. Do you have AAA? They'll jump it for you.

Nope. :( Last time I had a dead battery, I had to have my sister's roommate jump it - but I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. With my luck, she's at work like everyone else. :P Even if I could get hold of her, though, I'll still feel more comfortable having my stepdad take a look at it and see what he can do with it, rather than potentially drop a huge chunk of cash at the shop.

If you recently replaced the battery and it's dead already, it may be your alternator. Alternators almost always kill the battery when they go. I've replaced alternators in 3 vehicles, and your experience sounds very similar to mine.

It looks like the faulty motor in my driver's side door lock was to blame. The thing was just whirring for who knows how long (I haven't driven it in a couple of days), trying to lock and unlock the door on its own like some pissed off ghost, and that ran down the battery. My stepdad jumped the engine and pulled out the relay for the lock (which was warm) and the car seems to be running fine now.
