I was reading some Harry Potter fic, and it featured ferret!Draco. Now, I'll read just about anything if it's written well, but I'm always a little wary of ferret!Draco. Do people actually think this is believable ( Read more... )

The reason I've never thought of Draco being a ferret is because he doesn't even like the creatures. The animagus form and Patronus are obviously creatures with some significance to the wizard (or in Hermione's case, the author) and I don't think are necessarily aspects of their personality.

Draco, in book four, is turned into a ferret almost as punishment. He is teased about it for weeks afterwards (or years, depending on what fanfic you read) and with the amount of pride an arrogance we see of him in canon, I cannot imagine him associating any good memories with the ferret. As such, it's unlikely to be his patronus and by that reasoning (and something JKR said in an interview) not his animagus form, either.

Animagus forms remind me of the daemons in the His Dark Materials trilogy - specifically that they represent the person, even elements that they haven't embraced in themselves. Someone might end up with a rabbit when they wanted a leopard ( ... )

the ferret thing was just a transfiguration. Krum turned himself into a shark(half-way, at least), but that doesn't mean he's animagus or that that's what form he would take. I think draco would be some sort of bird of prey.

I think my animagus form would be a tomato... (dancing tomato icon unrelated)
