My grandmother, in reference to the several years of mental problems I went through (including the suicide attempt) before finding my current therapist and medication, said, "you spent so long goofing off. It's nice that you're finally doing something with your life."

That's so sad. It certainly goes to prove that there is a major stigma that we have to deal with from family to the general public. *hugs*
