My adviser told me I had gotten so much done on my dissertation this semester that I could go on the job market next year if I wanted to, finishing grad school an entire year early! I'm considering this (it would take a lot of work on my part), but we will probably stay here if Jesse gets into nursing school (which we'll find out in March),

As a sculpture is painfully etched out of stone, so has she etched her life, bit by bit. Still, from the observer's eye it seems as though she hews the stone with reckless abandon, lopping off here, pounding away there, until the next chisel is taken up. Just now we begin to see what might be the contours of her statue, her life; even unfinished the power and emotion shows through the piece, as if it could be exhibited unfinished as an abstraction. I hope to see it finished, although from afar, to see the joy and new beauty which is uncovered from the naked stone. One can learn much from art about life and life from art, perhaps...
