Trying to figure out how long it would take a cargo ship to go from Tokyo to Thailand and then Taiwan, because Thailand would take too long.

The things I do for you, Takatori Mamoru. The things I do.

Ahahahahaha! (My laughter brought to you by the amount of time it took for me to ascertain that yes, by that year it was quite likely that Mamoru would have a car known as a Lexus for the home market).

I saw that line and KNEW you had researched it, just as I had looked up the kind of high end but still Japanese watch Mamoru would be wearing in a different scene.

It's no different from an author doing research for a something intended for publication. I once researched the effect of the international dateline for a story and read a number of books on geisha for another, and neither of those stories is finished yet.

Steve and Mamoru are the absolute worst. Mamoru's in my top three most-written but Steve, man. Steve's not even in the top ten.

Random thing of randomness: I processed a book today that apparently was about Japan's maritime forces, since piracy was a huge problem in the 1980-90s. The intro/preface had a brief story about a Japanese cargo ship holding around $3 million in US money worth of..maybe aluminum? Anyway, it was hijacked by pirates when it was going from S. Korea to Thailand, I think, and 3 months later the authorities tracked down the ship to a Chinese port, having been renamed four times. The original crew was never found and presumed to be dead. :|
