I have done that a few times. Once I kind of wondered if maybe someone else had written it and I was planning to use it as a springboard. (And then I found the tell-tale phrases of one of my first drafts, lol.)
This was HUGE. I never posted it though, because I was worried about some of the structural issues, and it was kind of a Heavy Issues AU and I started worrying the whole business wasn't appropriate, lol.
Not appropriate??? Poppycock. I want to see it. You have made me curious now. I don't really care if it's in any fandom I'm familiar with either. Lost things should always be found and then posted. Post. It.
I wish that happened. I find bits and pieces for stories I'd like to be able to say I'd written, but entire stories? No: if I even came within shouting distance of finishing it, I've posted it.
Would that it were otherwise. She said in some despair, surveying the ever-growing mountain of story chunks that might amount to something some day, if the stars aligned just right.
Sometimes I will do it with things I've posted too -- I threw everything on my Amazon Cloud Drive when I switched computers for caution (at least I hope it was everything).
Maybe you should try to put it into one giant metafic.
I suppose I could call it an experiment, but the trouble is you guys are too smart to fall for that. I'm sure in some circles people would pretend to understand it, in an Emperor's New Clothes kind of way, but my circles are not those circles. And a good thing, too.
Although maybe I could cast it as a kind of giant challenge. See whether you can assemble this collection of ingredients into an actual, as it were, finished dish! And no cheating: I know that it's hard to figure out any way that asofoetida, marzipan, truffles, and cake layers all go together, but that's the point, right?
