...I think calamitycrow's the one who did recs on crack_van as a cat. It was kind of flounce-a-licious.

I'm having lunch with one of my mentors from high school on Sunday!

Hooray! I lost track of most of my high school mentors. I think I disappointed them by not going to grad school.

My mentors have shifted from my Grandmother, to several highschool teachers, to my dear friend Gyphon. I try to find nourishment everywhere.

Having a good grandmother is a big help, I think. And yeah, that's a good way to do it.

Also, I clicked the link (which is almost always a mistake) and as soon as I read the first line I back spaced like I was winning money by doing so.

My origins are pretty much the same as yours. My parents were VERY encouraging and my dad liked to dabble in drawing a bit. To be honest, he's not all that good at it, so I really think I got my creative talent from someone else in the family. Apparently I had an uncle or something I've never met that was good. But of course, I've all but abandoned art in the past few years (which looking back at my childhood I would have never thought possible!) in lieu of writing. My dad has dabbled in that too, although the first writing of his I can remember was when I was already a teenager and already into writing myself ( ... )

I still have a long way to go, but I've come SO far.

Yeah, I feel that way too.

Yeah, the comments are worse IT'S KIND OF AMAZING.

I wonder if, even more than the mentor thing, it's the feeling of collaboration and support we can get from fandom which makes a difference.

I still love your tiny fandoms!

I think it's the unique squee :-) I know how bubbly and awesome I feel reading a great fic about these characters that I love, and the impulse to share that and give back is irresistible!

YES.

Oh, and while I'm here, could you beta and/or Britpick my Keeping Up Appearances fic when it's done? I'm feeling pretty good about the plot and voices but the details frighten me!
