Panic! in the YA section (again)

I return after a hectic month of birthdays, messes and meltdowns and find something to go “O RLY?” at. As many readers probably already know The Wall Street Journal had someone (Meghan Cox Gurhon) come out and say “Young adult fiction these days is just too dark and I don't like that because it wasn't like that in my day.” Or something to that ( Read more... )

It struck me as a deeply reactionary article, fuelled either by a desire to be Noticeable! or a deep lack of understanding.

It's probably a combination of both. In any case the "have you seen what filth our kids are reading these days" assertion is as old as the written word. I bet Chaucer was considered a corrupter of the youth in his day too. XD
