Knock knock

It was colder here, colder than she'd expected. She certainly  had never expected to be here, on the doorstep of her oldest enemies. But a newer enemy had hurt her more deeply than she would have thought possible, and she had come to do the most unlikely thing of all: ask for their help. She raised a gloved hand and rapped  it against the door.

Normally, Isaak made an effort to be polite on those rare occasions when they had visitors, but at this particular moment, he was in no mood for niceties. He had just finished cleaning up the better part of the awful mess he had made in the lab, and he was heading upstairs for a much-needed shower when the knocking began. He considered ignoring it, but no one else was going to answer and there was a slight chance that it may actually be something important. And so, muttering a string of rather creative curses, he trudged back down the stairs, flung open the door... and froze.

"Cardinal Sforza?" To say that he was surprised to see her would have been an understatement of the highest degree. He was so completely stunned that he had to wonder if perhaps he was suffering some sort of hallucination brought on by prolongued exposure to potentially hazardous substances. Either that or he had finally wandered off the deep end.

Surely the singular object of his rusty, malformed affections was not actually standing there on his doorstep. Oh, no. That simply wasn't possible.

She gave him a rather bitter twist of the lips that could perhaps be viewed as a smile, if one wanted. It did nothing to lighten the cold grey nothing in her gaze. "I think that is an inappropriate form of address, given the current status of Rome, not to mention my own." she said frostily. She could feel a cough tickling at the back of her throat; what was that smell, anyway?

"Ah. Yes," he murmured, frowning slightly, recovering slowly from the shock of her arrival. "Won't you come in... Duchess?" He stepped aside , holding the door and waving a hand to usher her inside. He couldn't imagine what she was here for, but whatever it was, the front porch was not the place to discuss it.

She stepped inside, the heels of her shoes clicking softly against the flooring as she moved. She glanced about, assessing all that she could see in that one single glance. "I love what you've done with the place." she said with flat sarcasm. She was unhappy to be here, intending to persuade or beg for help, and it affected her speech.
