I did read this earlier, when you posted it, but then got...sidetracked.
I love the amount of detail you've packed into this. And dear, darling Lt Bush, so happy that he doesn't have to deal with Important People, leaving all that for his captain.
Bush wished that this Count had sent some horses to help with the guns, but civilians rarely understood the problems involved in transporting artillery.

Young Gerard pushed a sweaty curl back from his face. He bore a striking resemblance to his uncle, but Bush tried not to hold that against him.
