I had a lengthy IM conversation with Gaya a few days ago, in which she wove webs of shimmering golden words detailing Swedish history, and left me utterly enchanted.  Apart from giving me a most inconvenient worldbuilding-bunny, it gave me an idea for a major in college!  I then had the following conversation with my parents:

The reason those departments are there is because they often get written out of traditional departments, for whatever reason. History is written by white males.

(Thusly, all departments are Men's Studies departments.)

sarcasm or not, i personally find 'women's studies' kind of silly. different cultures have different things to learn about, but i really don't see the same thing being true about women.

i have random things i'd like to study too =) i'd so take courses in russian history.

Awww, Kate - Gaya and I could always give you a handy crash-course in Swedish/Scandinavian history! If I get some time to root around and find my History 101 coursebook, I could even give you some indepth details.

That conversation is hilarious, though. *gigglesnort* I do the same thing all the time - just randomly dumping an idea into a conversation, and then I have to wait while the people around me try to determine whether or not I'm crazy. XD
