Today's topic is women of color
I’m a black girl, so I should have a lot to say on this topic, but I always feel bad bringing it up because I’m one of many and we aren’t all black.I've had this conversaton with my friends many of times, there is no race that can claim to be the only "colored" race. We've all been hurt and exploited, and we all need to stand up to help stop it for the sake of each other. So for the brown, red, yellow, white, and peach girls out there: BE PROUD OF YOUR MELANIN (OR LACK THEREOF)! I personally am fascinated by the differences between people that come from ethnicity and the awesome combinations that can come from them.
However, that is not to say that I don’t have a word specifically for the darker ladies. We need to work on our image. There are more of us in college now than there ever have been, the pregnancy rate for black teens is decreasing, and we are more getting to be more successful than our male counterparts. But we still have to combat the ho stereotype everywhere that we go. It’s on TV in movies and it truly runs rampant in music. We can’t be quiet and allow men to keep labeling us like this, thinking that they’ll eventually come to their senses because they won’t. The last thing I want is to have to see my kids have to deal with this issue by the time that they’re my age. We’ve got too much going for us right now to have this be an issue anymore. We are so much more than that.
