Splendid 1880 Victorian Pink silk and LACE Reception Gown with silk bows
I have to say, this is one of the finest examples of an early 1880's natural form bustle dress I've ever seen, anywhere, at any time! The style is also sexy and perfectly comfortable yet classic for a young, unmarried woman in spring, before supper. The fabric is a gorgeous, rich pink silk satin overlaid with a flowery net lace flounces that overlay over the plunging, square neckline, the shoulders, on the hip of the bodice, and large flounced and bustled lace.
The beautiful bodice is just amazing-it's very fitted and curvy, with high stiff whalebones inside a pink silk taffeta inner. The front closes corset style- with lace-up ties, so it's adjustable a few inches. Pointed, cuirass style waist. Flounces of frothy ivory lace decorate the edges, and the 3/4, almost full length sleeves. The back of the neck has many rows for a rear, revers standup collar. There's also a fold-over lapel collar on the front. Bowed peplum. Bows on cuffs/neck/shoulders. Very elegant!
The skirt is same fabric, with a long, artistically draped overskirt. Long, flowing silk satin bows drape down the skirting. Wide pleats on the hem. Linen and buckram interior. Small self bustle built inside folds of bustle skirt. Long, self fabric pocket hidden in folds. This is a once in a lifetime gown!
