Aesthetics and cinematic technique aside, It Was Incredibly Cheap is pretty much how I sum up the entire episode. Maaaaan, and it's not like I have seething hate for the episode, much like ............. basically all of fandom, but I wasn't impressed with how the writers seemed to use "some people are good at hiding depression" to vindicate killing off a character who wasn't narratively bolstered with a lot of substance to begin with. I never felt emotionally attached to Kutner, never felt like the writers gave me a lot of reasons to feel emotionally attached to Kutner, except maybe in an "awww, he's so goofy and adorable" kind of way. And he was, I thought he was cute, but that feeling for me was was so superficial that it really killed any sort of impact his death may have had. I just hope that the writers provide an explanation later on. D:
ETA: At least Kal's real life explanation is sympathetic. :>
