Loosely based on the fanvideo here. Written for a friend.

Bruce knew something was off right away. He had spent nearly a week locked away in that glass cell on a constant diet of gases that left him as weak as a kitten, but now the air smelled clear and there was something cool against his forehead. His eyelids were heavy and the room was too bright for his tastes when he first tried to open his eyes. He tried a second and third time and finally his pupils adjusted.

He was in a different room now, mostly made of metal. The familiar face was leaning over him and wiping at his forehead with a damp cloth. At first, Bruce moved to speak, but he was silenced when the other man beat him to it.

“I have a doctorate in engineering, do you get that problem. People hear doctor and seem to think you know everything about treating people?” he asked, a small smirk on his lips. “Let’s see if I’m any good at this shit, how do are you feeling? Dizzy? Nauseous? This is your only chance to be nauseous, any other time I will punch you for puking on me.”

“I’m not nauseous.” was all he could manage in that moment.

Tony Stark, whose name explained exactly why his face was so familiar, was the talkative type. He babbled on about this and that, going into a whole monologue about some argument he had had with what sounded like an AI program in his house, explaining how he had recently discovered a new element and how he was sure he ought to have won some sort of prize for his scientific discoveries, but that he hadn’t gotten anything since he stopped making weapons for the government, mentioning in passing how he had convinced SHIELD to release Bruce from the confines of his cell under the argument that he needed a lab assistant that understood what the words ‘thermal nuclear astrophysics’ meant.

Bruce had interrupted once to ask about the structure of Tony’s new element; he stayed silent throughout the rest.

It didn’t take long for Bruce to realize that Tony didn’t really need an assistant; in fact it didn’t take long before he was being dragged through the halls of the helicarrier, clad only in his medial gown. Tony seemed very apt at overriding the security as he managed to get them both into the flight hanger.

It was then that the helicarrier was struck, the entire structure jerking violently as an engine blew outside. Bruce was jolted as the shockwave of the explosion tossed them both sliding over the hanger floor. He was crying as he watched his skin turn that sick green shade, looking to Tony in blatant fear that he was about to kill the man that had just tried to help him escape.

Panic spread through the helicarrier as it became known that the hulk was loose inside. Several guards lay in broken heaps as the creature tore at the inner workings of the ship.

Then that sharp white pain hit the beast in the shoulder and it jerked around to lash out against the flying red and gold man. Tony was forced to flee, leading the hulk to jump from the craft as he chased after his attacker. The hulk let out a massive roar as he fell and Tony dived after him, uncertain just what such a fall would do. He crashed down over a large building, but the passed out man that lay in the rubble, once again seemed unharmed by such things.

The bright light as he woke jerked at some lost memory and Bruce let out a sharp gasp as a hand extended over his face. For a moment it appeared as fiery red metal and his eyes went wide before finally seeing clearly.

He wasn’t naked this time either, which was something he wasn’t quite used to anymore, and his savior was leaning over him. The coolness on his forehead came from the damp cloth the Tony had placed over his brow. He was clad in a loose set of clothes with the bed sheet pulled up under his neck.

He reassured Bruce that he was safe, that no one knew where he was, and that he would let Bruce stay as long as he needed. He touched Bruce gently, regretfully and the other man had no choice but to accept the help offered to him.

Tony’s home turned out to be the perfect hide out. SHIELD only came in search of Tony, himself, never once suspecting that some of the other locked doors in the home hid the doctor. The guest room was allotted to Bruce and a security clearance lock added to the door to keep out unwanted guests.

Tony worked nearly the entire time Bruce was there, holed up in his lab. In a strange sort of reverse, Bruce could only ever see Tony through the glass window and door that lead into the man’s lab. Part of him wanted to enter, but he had no security clearence for this part of the house. He wasn’t sure why Tony wouldn’t allow him in, but it seemed to make more sense as Tony lifted what he was working on.

The red and gold gauntlet that covered Tony’s arm as he released a test shot made Bruce step back a bit in shock.
