Agreed. But to add to that, physical movement gets the blood moving to the brain. Kids will think more clearly and learn better when they're able to exercise. That's why there are at least two recesses per school day too. In highschool there are sports programs (as long as they don't get cut too) to help with physical education.

Yes. 'Cause we (Americans) are fat. And fat people get sick a lot. ...And they're really hard to help out of a hospital bed.

To elaborate on a slightly more serious note:

True that PE doesn't guarantee a lifetime of health and fitness, but avoiding obesity as a child is a good start, and PE helps that at least a little. Overweight children tend toward becoming overweight adults, and then they tend toward getting fun stuff like diabetes and heart disease. Almost every patient I've ever had in the hospital has had a BMI over 25, some a lot more than that.

It would be cool if there were more options for kids, though - like maybe you could take a dance class if you found out you hated kickball. Man I hated kickball.

But exercise is good for you on so many levels - physical, emotional, and mental. You both brought up good points too!
