Can't Save Me (16/24)

Reid did not sleep well, he didn't sleep at all actually. Once his clock said seven in the morning, he got up, showered in the bathroom down the hall from his room because he could not bring himself to use his bathroom anymore, dressed and then headed back to the hospital. He wasn't working until the afternoon so he was going to spend the whole morning, sitting in Luke's room, waiting for him to wake up so he could talk to him. Lily and Holden were already working on getting Luke into rehab. Reid knew that Luke needed it, but he didn't want to send him away. He still wanted to help him, himself.

Walking into the hospital room, there were already flowers everywhere from everyone that knew Luke. He smiled to himself before frowning when he looked at Luke and how pale he was.  His wrist was wrapped and the cast that had been on his right arm before the attempted suicide, taken off by Luke, was replaced with just a brace so they would be able to get to the cut on his wrist easier. He took Luke's hand into his own as he sat down on the edge of the bed. He could feel tears in his eyes and he blinked them away.

"How could you do something like this, Luke?" he whispered.

Luke slowly opened his eyes. He was looking at the ceiling until he felt someone squeeze his hand. He turned his head to see Reid watching him. He didn't say a word as he pulled his hand away and rolled onto his side, away from Reid.

"Luke, don't do this."

"Go away." he whispered, "I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to see you."

"Luke, look at me."

"I said go away."

"Luke..."

"You never take no for an answer, do you." Luke turned to look at him, tears in his eyes.

"When it comes to you, apparently not."

Luke rolled back over, wiping at his eyes, "He lied."

"Who?"

"Noah."

"About what?"

"Not remembering."

"How do you know?"

"My therapist told me I should go and see him to get past this, so I did."

"Alone?"

Luke shook his head, "Casey went with me."

"When?"

"The day after we almost had sex and I froze."

Reid pinched the bridge of his nose, "What did he tell you?"

"He thought that if he had no memory of what he did, he would get a lesser sentence."

"But he didn't."

"He knows that, so he told me he remembered everything and didn't care."

"Is that why you..." he couldn't even bring himself to say the words.

Luke didn't say anything. Reid took a deep breath, "What else did he say?"

"Nothing, Casey punched him a few times and then the guards came running in and we left."

"Remind me to send Grandbaby Hughes a thank you card."

Luke smiled slightly and laughed. Reid smiled too, "Will you talk to me now?"

"We've been talking."

Reid rolled his eyes, "About what you tried yesterday."

"I don't want too."

"Luke..."

"Reid, please. I'm tired."

Reid nodded, "Fine. But you should know, your parents are talking about sending you to rehab."

"I figured they would."

"I don't want to send you to rehab. I want you to return to the apartment with me and Katie."

"Reid, do you really think that is a good idea."

"It's better then sending you away."

"There is a rehab here at Memorial, they wouldn't send me too far away."

"You're an adult, it's your choice."

They continued to talk until it was lunch time. They ate and then Reid had to start his rounds. Luke sat in his room, reading a book that Reid had brought with him from Luke's stash he had at the apartment. He was thinking over what Reid had said about the rehab actually being his choice. He knew it was his own choice, and he knew it would be for the best, to help him, but he really did not want to. In the end, he decided exactly what he needed to do, even if he didn't want to do it. He then fell asleep.

The next day, he was released from the hospital and checked into rehab. His parents and Reid were there with him. Lily hugged and kissed him and Holden hugged him before they backed away to allow Luke and Reid a little time before Luke had to go.

"Are you really sure about this?" Reid asked

Luke nodded, "It's only for thirty days, the month will go by faster then you know."

"And then it's right back where you belong, with me."

"That's the plan." Luke smiled, "You know I'm sorry about everything I've put you through, right?"

"Don't apologize, you have nothing to be sorry for."

"Yes I do. I have a lot to be sorry for."

"Not to me, you don't."

"Luke," Dr. Jansen walked up to them, "Ready?"

Luke nodded before turning back to Reid. They kissed before Luke pulled away and followed his therapist down the hall. She was still going to be his therapist while he was in rehab. He was also going to have another therapist in the rehab center, but he wanted to keep Dr. Jansen on as his main therapist and they were both able to talk to each other about what Luke talked to them about so they would both be able to help him deal with whatever he needed to deal with, which was a lot.
