Can't Save Me (7/24)
"Luke, time to get up."
"Mmm."
"No, get up."
"Why?"
"We have to stop at the hospital before going to the court house."
"Why?"
"To change that cast."
"What time is it?"
"Six-thirty."
"I don't have to be at the court house until ten."
"I know, just get up."
"Fine."
"I'll be in the kitchen with the coffee."
"Whatever."
Luke heard Reid leave the room and he groaned. He had a headache but when he opened his eyes, he found that a glass of water and some aspirin were sitting on the nightstand. Just as he was sitting up to take the aspirin, Reid walked back in with a cup of coffee.
"Oh and your dad dropped off your suit to wear to court. It's in the bathroom so you can take another shower."
Luke nodded and stood up, he swayed a little but quickly balanced himself. When he turned, Reid was watching him. He smiled at him before heading into the bathroom.
"There is a new toothbrush on the sink for you." Reid told him as he walked past.
When Luke was finished with his shower and cleaning up, he entered the kitchen to find Reid walking with Katie, who was up and feeding Jacob. It was almost eight now.
"We thought you had fallen asleep in the shower." Katie smiled at him, "How are you feeling?"
"Better." Luke took the cup of coffee Reid was holding out to him and took a sip, making a face, "Not enough sugar."
Reid snorted, "All that sugar you add to your coffee, I'm surprised your teeth aren't rotted."
Luke shrugged, "Makes it taste better."
"Maybe we should get going now so we're not late." Katie stood after cleaning Jacob up.
"You're coming too?" Luke asked
"Of course, where else would I be?" Katie smiled sweetly at him, taking Jacob from his high chair.
It was not long after that they were all walking into the court house together. Lily and Holden were there, as were Lucinda and Jack and Carly. They all gathered together, still having a good twenty minutes before they were to go into the court room and find out if Noah was pleading guilty or not.
"I'm sure I have a contact that could take care of this problem." Lucinda suggested
"Mother!" Lily looked at Lucinda in horror.
"All you have to do is say the word, darling." Lucinda looked at Luke.
"Thanks Grandmother, but no thanks." Luke shook his head
Nobody spoke again and watched as Noah was brought in with a guard. Luke's breathing hitched and Reid was the first to realize. He turned Luke away from Noah's direction so he was no facing him and they just looked at each other while Luke calmed down.
"Better?" Reid whispered to him.
Luke nodded and then frowned, "I think I'm gonna be sick."
Reid let go of Luke's shoulders and Luke headed for the restroom just down the hall.
"Maybe Luke shouldn't go in there." Holden offered
"He wants to be there, Holden." Jack told his cousin, "That's why we're all here."
In the bathroom, Luke had just thrown up in the sick and washed it out and then rinsed out his mouth. He looked at himself in the mirror and almost wanted to throw up again. He knew he looked horrible with the dark circles under his eyes and he looked like he was losing a little weight and his suit didn't fit him just right anymore.
He didn't like feeling the way he was feeling and he really wished it would just be over and he could get his life back. Then something changed in him and he became angry. Looking back at the mirror, he snapped and used his arm with the cast and smashed it into the mirror. He allowed the now shattered mirror to fall into the sink. He just stared down into the sink when someone walked into the bathroom.
He didn't care who it was, not even looking up to see who it actually was. Just standing there, he was arguing with himself to leave the court house and just forget about being there to listen to Noah to know if he was going to plead guilt or not but then he was telling himself that he needed to be there. But now could be there when he couldn't even look at Noah and not go into a panic attack or get sick.
"It's about to start." Tom walked up to the Snyder's.
"Luke is in the restroom at the moment," Lily told him.
Tom nodded, "Everyone is showing up to support Luke."
Just then another large group of people walked into the court house. Casey and Alison with Margo. Henry and Barbara were even there. Dusty and Janet had shown up just a few minutes before. Faith and Parker both wanted to be there but there was nobody else to watch Natalie and Ethan so they had decided to stay home and babysit and just hear what happened when it was all over.
"I'll go and get Luke." Reid offered, turning to leave the group, feeling a little uncomfortable with them all there.
He walked up to the restroom door and saw a guard standing there.
He stopped, "You're Mr. Mayer's guard, aren't you?"
"Yes."
"What are you doing outside the restroom?"
"He's in there." the guard nodded his head to the door.
Reid instantly panicked, "You moron, Luke Snyder is in there. Didn't you check before allowing him in there."
He opened the door and rushed inside, turning the corner to find Luke and Noah standing at the wall. He quickly saw the broken mirror in the sink and on the floor and then turning back to Luke and Noah, he saw that Noah had a piece of the mirror in his hand and against Luke's throat.
"Mmm."
"No, get up."
"Why?"
