One more quick observation about elephants before I go on. Saturday, upon the arrival of the driver heaving the Big Guy upstairs, he remarked (surprisingly without rancour): "That's the heaviest suitcase I've ever handled. What do you have in there, a piano?" We all laughed. Then I said: "Well, I do have a keyboard..."

The laughter petered out. Was ( Read more... )

"Der Froschkönig" -- yeah, but, does is taste like chicken? Heh.

That's excellent about the musik.

And the trains... awesome. Though in some ways the NYC just wouldn't be the NYC subway of legend if it were clean, came on time, you could understand the maps and the conductors didn't speak static.

Well, as ex-NYC 'Punks on the Subway' (thank you Kyle Cassidy) I suppose we have a peculiar fond nostalgia for the sheer grime, antique wads of gum frescoed on cement, conductors bawling 'Dis ain't no cot-dam limo,' and so forth. But it's more of a 'look at this ridiculous thing we dealt with' appeal at this point. :D

So that's what was in the depths of those elephants........very clever! Sounds like you brought everything you need to DO musik! I don't know about the NY subways, but I remember the Chicago ones from years ago and they were the last word in grimey....however, they beat L.A.'s!!

Actually, L.A.'s subways are *non-existent*! So they're really bummed. I'd forgotten all about getting shut in the El, but now that you remind me, that was really scary for a minute, wasn't it?

I love reading your tales and can hardly wait for the next one......it's almost as good as being there myself!

I miss you, too..........

I think the L.A. "subway" (it's like one line that goes to "downtown" L.A.) derailed and there were like, 2 shootings on it the day it opened back when I was in college. Heh.
