Yep, we made that contraption in-house as well--the draper for the Bawd costume was my colleague and fellow professor, Jade Bettin (who teaches costume history and undergraduate costume design courses). The weird hip-cage/roll action is all her doing!

I'm not a huge acronym fan, but my immediate gut response to this is OMG LOL WWLBD?

Have you looked at the diagrams in the behind the scenes Lion King book? I know they have a rhinoceros schematic and an elephant schematic, so i think that would be where i'd start my brainstorming. Good luck with the show, it sounds like a crafts dream in terms of cool projects!

Also, thanks re the wig. I will ask about detail shots of the hipcage structure. I know the bumroll thing is a stuffed C-shape sausagey thing, and the cage is made from a combination of steel bones in channels and rigilene...
