Hey hun, I know I'm a bit late in commenting, but thanks heaps for posting these, they are quite simply scrumptious! Your poetic tastes are quite marvellous, young Jedi...:P

Gotta say the Fiona Farrell (have actually met her a few times!) is my favourite. The Roma Potiki is lovely as well.

Vincent O'Sullivan is cool; did an essay on him last year. Also got a book of his poems for my birthday. :)

I actually heard Bill Manhire give a poetry reading the other day. Very powerful poetry, and, as a person, he wasn't quite what I was expecting! Totally inspired me to write poetry again...even if it's only my inner monologue at the moment that's churning out any decent writing!

Why, thank you. XD My taste is not that good, I'm actually almost indiscriminate with my poetry tastes; I LOVE New Zealand poetry beyond any belief. I think my favourite of this lot might actually be the Bob Orr, although I also ADORE the Vincent O'Sullivan and of course the Fiona Farrell, but I've read Seven Wishes many many times and the other two are quite new to me.

Mmm, I love getting poetry for my birthday/christmas... I'm gathering up a wee collection. ;) My mother gave me Miss New Zealand (Jenny Bornholdt), Wild (Anne French) and The Collected Langston Hughes for Christmas, which was pretty awesome, and then I stole (er, from home) My Heart Goes Swimming which is a KICKASS anthology of NZ love poems and The Somethingth(like Oxford or Cambridge or something) Collection of New Zealand Love Poetry which is also really really nice. Plus I have two very cheap volumes of Emma Neale poetry and Shakespeare's Sonnets ( ... )

Think I might have to swipe some of those poetry anthologies of yours! :P
Especially keen to have a gander at Emma Neale's poems...I have read two of her novels, and I think she writes like an angel! Hmmm, wonder if she's put anything else out recently?

Hehe, I studied Glenn Colquhoun last year as well! Awesome poetry, very enchanting. It's very likely it was him that did the poem about his father; he once put out an anthology called "On teaching my father about poetry", or something similar.

Personally, I think you'd really enjoy ENGL210. I know you're not much of a Frame fan, but it's got loads of other awesome-o stuff, which I think would be to your liking.

I myself, along with several others from my poetry class, did a poetry reading at the Arts Centre earlier this year, and that was brilliant fun! Actually, that's right, I did a post on it at one stage. Very cool, got heaps of praise and affirmation about my work and my reading style, which was great. :)

Welcome to! :) As for the Emma Neale- I enjoyed her novels better than her poems, to be honest, but there are some gems in there. She's definitely a better novelist than poet. Have you read Double Take? I think that's her most recent one, although I couldn't be sure. I've also read Night Swimming by her and I think something else which I don't recall. *shrug*

:)
