As someone who likes running cons, as well as other people who like running cons, I might try to get to Conrunner 2008 - definitely less intimidating than one of the (largely US-based) SMOFcons (oops - gave away the secret.... ;-) )

But the Conrunner flyer (and Web site) lifts great lumps of text from the SMOF website!

No offence meant re SMOFcon, btw - it's just that, having been involved with a couple of UK cons, I know more conrunners in the UK, so there wouldn't be so many strangers for me to be nervous of.

That's true. But you'll see me at Denvention (especially since my Nippon2007 plans fell through due to teaching commitments!).

I ran Fourplay in that hotel; it was jolly nice but doesn't appear to have had a refurb since then. (1991 I think)

I'm indeed from Finland, but I don't know the guys in question. I know only a few fannish people here, and there aren't any trekkies among them.

Hmm, just remembered that I want to go to Denvention (next year's worldcon, in Denver) next year, and that's a bit later than Conrunner. So Conrunner will probably be out. Which probably means Europe is out, as it'd be cheaper for me to go to Denver via LAX than do a round-the-world trip, I think. I'm sorry.... getting anywhere from Australia is so expensive... :-(

Maybe we should have an OzSmofCon, do you think?

(Currently I'd rather go to another Eastercon than Conrunner, but...)

I much prefer ConComCon (a Pacific Northwest conrunning convention) and Midwest Construction (a Midwestern conrunning convention, currently in hiatus) to Smofcon.
