The thing that most amuses me about this is relating this to my weekend.
While my wife and I were at a birthday party for a kindergarten classmate of our daughter's, we started to get inundated with these bugs that are perpetually called "Sand Bees" (turns out they're called Sand Dune Bee Flies).
Anyhow, these things directly resemble wasps, but have no stingers (they mimic wasps so as to be left alone). They tend to be attracted strongly to food and are absolutely annoying, but no one wants to touch them out of fear.
I finally became frustrated enough to spend quite a bit of time going after one before I finally got it (and then another, a little later), much to my wife's mocking.
But I got the damned thing and was proud of it. So your account definitely made me laugh in commisseration.

I did have a wee bit of a headache this morning though, from dehydration.
