Went to the dentist on Tuesday... The lovely Gavin recommended at my last check-up in November that my two root-canalled molars should probably get crowned as soon as possible to give them the best chance of survival. So, Tuesday was prep and he shaved them down into pretty shapes to hold my crowns, took loads of moulds and made a set of temps that ( Read more... )

Oh god... I've gotten a crown but without the dead nerves part. It's just a nightmare.

Why's everyone on my Friends list (well, two) going to the dentist at the same time as I am? At least it gives the feeling that we can all suffer together.

My next crown is Mar 6th. :P And they were gonna do anesthesia for that?! o.O

What's getting a root canal like?

Everyone says it's like getting a big filling done. They use the drill to get towards the root, then they have these fine files that are long and root-shaped that rasps the inside of the root away so you're left it root hole and no nerves. Then they pack it with stuff and send you away for a few days for it to settle, then pack it properly with root filler and a good strong filling on top. Painless, but it is a bit weird when he shoves the file up into your gums... almost.

Man, fuck that no anethesia business. I had a dentist going in for what sounds like basically the same thing - double root canal, temp while the crown is cast, grind the temp off and crown 'er up. "No anethesia necessary", he says. "The nerves are all dead." I let him know the whole area, and the tooth in specific, still hurts when I drank aprticularly hot or cold liquids, and he sort of shrugs and dives in. Twenty minutes later the fucker is giving me the novicain anyway, because he can't work I'm trying that hard to scream.
To this day, the area still hurts. I've got a cup of tea right now, and if Is wirl it around that particular tooth, I can feel the pain coming on.

I fucking hate dentists.

Somebody didn't do a decent job of the root canal...

Mine are fine, but when I had to pay full whack for it without insurance, I bloody well hoped I'd be getting good service!

I paid £9 for the pleasure of having my mouth violated by a ginger bastard on Tuesday, I hadn't been to the dentist for two years but my teeth were fine.
Unfortunately though i have a fucking weirdo sleezebag psychopath for a dentist who treats you like a child and goes through the whole textbook explanation of how plaque and tartar build up while he's poking you and how evil and nasty it is if you don't look after your teeth.
He then did a 'quick clean' which mainly consisted of driving the drillbit as far down into my gumline as possible making them bleed in agony. Safe to say i'm going to request im moved onto the other guy's register now.
