Can anybody come up with a way for me to land Optimus Prime in the Autobot brig that isn't a complete rip from Starhorse's Love Is fic?

I have a delightful plot bunny, but it needs to be set up. Optimus in the brig, preferably having gotten there via his own petard somehow rather than being stuck there completely as a result of malicious

This would probably work better with Bayverse (although it could be OK for any), but how about Optimus breaking the terms of a treaty (probably one with the humans) in order to achieve a greater good, and then it all blows up in his face?

(I haven't read the linked-to fic, so I don't know what the plot device is in that).

Perhaps.

It's Optimus getting fed up at other Autobots getting speeding tickets, issuing a memo that the next Autobot to be caught speeding spends a week in the brig, and he and Prowl promptly work themselves into a rage over the stupid carelessness of said Autobot speeders, such that they go thundering down the highway and get caught doing 135.

well thinking animated optimus, sassing his superiors would do it.
For a G1 optimus, have him "quarenteened" for his own good post exposure to some hideous virus/mutagen/whateer that he risked life and limb to defeat.

He's discovered playing with his basketball (NOT a euphemism!) while he was supposed to be on monitor duty.

OR, he takes a truly stupid risk on the battlefield that makes the Twins look restrained, as a result of letting Megatron (or whoever) goad him beyond all reason or something. See 'Prime Target' for an example of the kind of thing that makes Optimus lose his cool. (Is it just me or was he especially hot in that ep? Protective mama-bear Optimus, mmmm.)

Depends on what mood you want him to be in. The first would be resigned and even good-humored, like "I got caught fair and square and now I'll take my punishment like a soldier"; the other might be somewhat resentful, "I did it to save my people and I'd do it again!" kind of thing. That one would be more emotionally charged when the Malicious Subordinates come in.
