Some people's assholedom knows no bounds:

An artist is being sued by someone who has copied his work, to have his copyrights revoked. And, due to a legal technicality regarding who sued first (the asshole), a judgment will be made in favor of the design thief if the artist is unable to fund a defense as far as the copier decides to appeal ( Read more... )

assholes, under siege, fucking hate this shit, art

It'd be good to know who the jackass is, so that we can boycott his theiving ass AND send him many, many emails informing him of doing so. Pass the word far and wide enough, and his own assholery will shut the asshole down.

I checked out the site last night---very flashy, the sort that costs a lot to design and gives the impression of a luxury good being sold; he obviously has money to throw around. But at least one of the copied firepit designs you can see a joining seam on it, whereas the artist cuts his out in one piece. He's worried that people will associate him with the dubious quality they see when the imitator goes to fairs and such, and one guy emailed the artist saying he'd thought he'd met him at a fair, but the guy was distant, and then he found out that it wasn't the artist but this other guy, and the way it was said kinda gives me the impression that the imitator didn't bother to correct the man's impression that he was John Tunger.

Flashy, well-done site, with the products appearing to be priced slightly under the artist's standard prices, but you can see from a shot of the lotus one that the quality is dubious in comparison (the artist cuts them out in one piece; you can see a joining seam on the imitator's version).

One of the big things he was worried about is people associating this guy with him and judging the quality badly. One guy emailed him about the imposter saying he had thought he'd met him at a fair, but he was distant, which suggests to me that the imitator didn't bother to correct the man's assumption. It's all manner of sickening.

I thought it was because we did it for love and giggles, not for money. But I guess that's a factor too. Man, remind me never to make other people's lives crap over something this stupid.
