didn't draco manage to disarm dumbledore before snape killed him? i'm not entirely positive and i would have to go back and read to be sure, but i DO know that dumbledore was defenseless when snape killed him - i'm only fairly certain that the reason for this was draco had disarmed him previously. hence, draco mastered dumbledore and the wand knows it. so when harry takes draco's wand from his hand (physcially instead of magically) in the deathly hallows, the hive-mind of wands (because really, they have to have some kind of community knowledge for this to make sense) knew that harry trumped draco, and therefore the wand that was dumbledore's (then draco's in heart, but not in actuality) recognized harry as the ruler of the elder wand. does that make any sense ( ... )

Hi Andrea! Wow, it's been a while! You've been friended. :-) What have you been up to lo these many years since ASMS?

Thanks for the explanation--that helps! I had forgotten that Draco disarmed Dumbledore. Now it all makes sense!

been up to... not much really... everyone else seems to be so much more successful and have so much more fun than me... i graduated with a double major in biology and english... i work as a secretary (which gives me AMPLE time to mess around online!)... i've got a cat and a fiance. that pretty much sums up my life. alas, i wish i had gone to grad school, but with REAL LIFE getting in the way (and by real life, i mean bills) that looks like a pretty far-off goal. i haven't talked to a lot of asms people since graduating because i feel like such a loser... here i am just getting by when everyone else is a neurologist or something.

looks like you're having a great time in cali!

Hehe, yeah, I see what you mean. As it turns out, we have a lot of over-achievers in our class! :-) But don't feel bad: a double major ain't nothin' to sneeze at!

Where did you go to college? I think I might have known this at one point, but, if so, I forgot.

Yeah, Cali is great! :-) I am looking forward to going home (Chapel Hill, NC), though. I kinda miss it there.

By the way, congratulations on your engagement! That is awesome...

I saw a dateline special last night with J.K. (I wasn't really trying to, I'm not that much of a nerd, it just happened to be on while surfing I PROMISE) and she mentioned that Harry and Ron had revolutionized the Auror department of the Ministry of Magic. Hermione was in the law field, I can't remember what it's called?

From another chat with J.K.:

J.K. Rowling: Hermione began her post-Hogwarts career at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures where she was instrumental in greatly improving life for house-elves and their ilk. She then moved (despite her jibe to Scrimgeour) to the Dept. of Magical Law Enforcement where she was a progressive voice who ensured the eradication of oppressive, pro-pureblood laws. Kingsley became permanent Minister for Magic, and naturally he wanted Harry to head up his new Auror department. After a few years as a celebrated player for the Holyhead Harpies, Ginny retired to have her family and to become the Senior Quidditch correspondent at the Daily Prophet! Ron joined George at Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes, which became an enormous money-spinner..

Cool...all of that sounds pretty believable. I wonder how long it took Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny to get married... :-) Thanks for sharing!
