CHAPTER 1

It’s a simple village, no more than 200 people live there. They’re poor and live an isolated life. It’s not much but they were happy. It’s a simple life back then in 1845, Jewett City, Connecticut.

Life was peaceful and good, until blood sucker monsters’ attack that happened six months ago. It killed 6 people and wounded more than 10 people. The villagers were scared but they couldn’t afford to abandon their house. So far, the attack had happened five times.

Without any other choice, they began to plead help to the government but they didn’t get much. The government went silent after their agents were killed on duty for the second time. Some said, the village was beyond helping.

In the mist of terror and confusion, the villager didn’t expect them to have traveller came to their doorstep. Yet, this very week, two young men stopped in their almost-abandoned inn and stayed. The inn keeper was sure they would go in the morning, yet, they stayed for a week.

It’s an old building, made of rocks to face the harsh winter. The furniture was barely used and made from wood. Old spice and wet wood fragrance were all over the place. And those two young men were once again enjoying their breakfast.

“It’s not much but I hope it’ll fill your hunger,” the inn keeper put some bread on the table.

“Thank you,” one of the men spoke with his foreign accent. His hair was pitch black and it really made him looked different from the local. His eyes were hazel brown and almost too deep. It flashed red almost for a second and the inn keeper retreated after that.

“…Junsu, you scared him,” the other man spoke.

“Can’t help it, Jaejoong hyung,” Jaejoong spoke,” They’re all afraid of difference, that’s why I hate old country village…”

“Remember what we’re here for,” Jaejoong reminded.

“I know but it’d been a week and we still don’t know where they’re hiding,” Junsu pouted,” I miss the city life…”

Jaejoong smiled as he patted Junsu’s head. He’s like a younger brother to Jaejoong even though they’re not related by blood. No, they were even not supposed to be together, they’re supposed to kill each other if nature law was absolute.

“Let’s check out the forest once again,” Junsu suggested,” I just have this gut feeling something will happen today…”

“Is it bad or good?” Jaejoong asked as he bit the bread and drank his milk. Junsu’s gut feeling usually was right.

“I don’t know and that’s what bothering me…” Junsu answered. Jaejoong didn’t say anything as he finished his bread and got up. Junsu didn’t touch his share and followed Jaejoong afterwards.

They got out from the inn and greeted by the desperate faces of the villager. They’re so scared and it’s like a simple wind could throw them off balance. Jaejoong and Junsu tried their best to ignore the atmosphere as they walked to the forest entrance.

“Hey you two young fellow,” an old man called them,” I told you to stop entering the forest or those monster will eat you up!”

“We’ll be fine, don’t worry about us,” Junsu answered. The old man might be the only sane man in the village. He used to be carpenter but stop going to the forest ever since the attack happened. They knew the monsters were hiding there.

“It’s so dark today and it looks like it will be raining,” the old man spoke,” I don’t know what you two are searching but today isn’t a good day.”

“It’s a perfect day,” Jaejoong suddenly said,” It’s really a perfect day to hunt.”

The old man was dumb struck. Junsu just smiled as he waved the old man and followed Jaejoong in the forest. It’s indeed darker than normal days and they might stumble on their way if they’re a mere human.

Jaejoong lead the way as they went inside deeper. They had inspected every inch of the forest area, except an abandoned castle in the most southern area. Today they would go there and they were almost sure they would find what they’re looking for.

It took them an hour to finally reach the castle and the sky was really dark. Rain drop started falling and wetting their clothes. The castle looked in devastating stage and almost collapsed. It was built in Victorian style with rich Gothic carving. Such an intimidating architecture sculpture.

Suddenly, a lightning struck a tree nearby.

“Hyung!!!” Junsu bumped into Jaejoong as he hid his face on Jaejoong’s back. Jaejoong sighed as he patted Junsu’s head.

“Junsu, stop playing,” Jaejoong simply said as he pulled his guns out from his pocket.

“But I’m afraid of lightning and it will make me look normal right?” Junsu pouted as he looked around,” See? They think we’re human that scared of lightning.”

Red eyes were hiding behind the bushes. Junsu and Jaejoong could feel them; their thirst for blood. Junsu put his back on Jaejoong’s as they covered each other.

A mad roar screamed on the air as a monster-like figure attacked them from behind. Junsu grasped the monster and threw it on the ground hard enough to break the skull. The monster stopped moving.

“Remember Junsu, on the head,” Jaejoong spoke as he put bullets on another monster’s head; right between the maddening red eyes. He blew another one of his silver bullet into another monster’s jaw and broke the fangs.

“How many times do you think I’ve done this hyung,” Junsu said,” I’m going all out!”

Jaejoong smirked as he shot his guns over and over again, killing more monsters. Meanwhile, Junsu’s eyes turned into red as he bared his fangs and tore away the monsters’ head.

Junsu smirked at the angry monsters that rushed to their death. Yes they couldn’t be saved. A mere broken vampire, that had lost his sense to blood lust, couldn’t be saved.

Human-turned-into-vampire was fated to be able to control their thirst, which was hard as hell, or ended up being monster that would be hunted by hunters. Junsu was lucky he could. He had Jaejoong as his guide post. He was thankful for that.

“Hyung something was off,” Junsu said as he realized how easy it was.

It’s too easy, far too easy. They would have done the job in one day if it’s this easy. Something was off. Jaejoong was fighting off one of the blood sucker as he realized a silver arrow was flying throw the air.

“Junsu! Watch out!”

But Jaejoong was too late as the arrow struck Junsu’s on the arms. Junsu wailed in pain as Jaejoong covered up for him.

“I’m sorry hyung…” Junsu pulled the arrow out and tore his cloak to cover his wound,” I’m fine, don’t worry.”

CLAP…CLAP…CLAP…

The monster stopped attacking all of the sudden as a man showed up on the top of the castle. He was dressed in black from hair to toe and his eyes were shimmering red. Jaejoong never saw such a deep red eyes as long as he could remember in his hunter experience.

“Now, now, isn’t it interesting?” The man’s voice echoed through the air,” A vampire working together with a hunter…”

Junsu bare his fangs in anger. He knew the man was the one who shot silver arrow to him. Yet, deep inside he felt something from the man. Like attraction, yet, it’s not quite right.

The man looked into Junsu’s eyes with his pitch red maroon eyes and Junsu shivered. He felt like he couldn’t do a thing to the man. It’s intimidating and Junsu was scared for the first time since he turned into a vampire
