The show and the manga have been a little wonky on the exact passage of time (although I haven't seen 3rd season yet, so I could be incorrect about this) but let me take a stab at your other questions with the best of my knowledge. I hope there aren't any major spoilers for you below, I am going off of seasons 1&2 and some of the manga/novels
( ... )
Thanks so much for your reply, maria_chan. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. And no worries about spoilers, coz I have seen all 3 seasons + OVAs, as well as read the few manga volumes and novels that are available in English (but I still skip over lots of details I think). The characters in the novels are so much better than the anime, I wish ALL the novels were available in English :-D
Just speculation, but I guess because time passes much faster in Shin Makoku, even though Mazokus have longer life-span, they'll reach their old age the same time as a human would on Earth? For example, Yuuri and Shori would age more or less the same, if Yuuri lives mainly in Shin Makoku, and Shori mainly on Earth?
Re: Thanks!maria_chanOctober 27 2010, 19:20:10 UTC
Yes, I do believe that people would age somewhat consistently in both worlds, however I feel that if Yuuri was gone for an extremely long amount of time, I think he would retain a more youthful appearance than Shouri, though. I wonder if demons on earth have a longer life span/ youthful appearance too?
According to the anime, in the episode where Yuuri and company went to Switzerland to meet Bob, Yuuri's father said Bob looked the same after so many years (more than 15 years since he met Bob). His mom then got all excited and asked if that was because of a new beauty product :-D I assume that's because of his maryoku as a Maou. However, in the scene where the two Wincott(?) brothers (who fought along side Shinou and who were in charge of the 4th box) moved the box to the Earth, one of the brothers said something like, if you stay here to guard over the box, your life will be shorter, and the other said he would accept that. So it's not clear to me what's the deal with Mazokus living on Earth. Then again, this is according to the anime, which has certain details different than the novels. In any case, logically, mazokus living on Earth should not have a long life, otherwise they'll all go into the Guiness book for long life, and they can't hide the fact that they are not normal human :-D
I think Shin Makoku's time is 5 times the length of Earth, though it's never really explained properly in the anime.
I suppose Yuuri would either have to stay in Shim Makoku, or as he does now continue to go back and for, he is always there when the danger happens anyway :'))
There are a load of different ideas to how Yuuri will age, but considering he is half-demon, he should age like Conrad? So, half-demons age like humans at first but eventually slow down to age like a demon. I only keep to this one because it means Wolfram won't out grow Yuuri :'))
Thanks for joining the discussion. I remember reading in the novel that for mazokus, their real age is five times what they appear (Wolf is 82, but he looks like 16). But I think that's not the same as time difference between the two worlds. If we think about the first time Yuuri went to Shin Makoku, he reached the capital the day after, had the duel the following day, then slept for 3 days, then went back to the border village, then 1 more day to get back to the capital (I assume) + a few days to prepare for the coronation ceremony) before he was transferred back to Earth. So he was in Shin Makoku AT LEAST 5 days, but when he was transferred back to Earth, Murata was back in the toilet with an officer to rescue him, on the same day. I also assume the time lapse since Murata ran away couldn't be more than a few hours, MAX
( ... )
Right! I think it 'should' be five times, but it never actually is, it's a bit mixed up in the anime.
And i wish we had more of the novels to read, i've only ever found 1 and 2 translated in english. And there are parts on kkm_wolframfans, i have them all in my memories if you want to look :')) I really wish tokyopop would just translate them all!! I would love to own them, but the manga is following the novel so we are getting the different story that way XD
The way that they always describe it is that its 5 times slower on Earth then on Shin Makoku.
I think that Yuuri's aging is pretty much up for grabs. There isn't really a definite answer to that. I like to think that his aging will slowly stop moving so fast. After all, I doubt that Shinou would put that much effort into making a Maou that would only live for a short time. But once again, many people take artistic liberties with Yuuri's aging hahaa
I'm happy to see a new fan! If you have any questions or want to talk about KKM (or anything really) just ask me and I'd be glad to help!
:-) Thanks for your reply. It seems to me time on Earth passes much more than 5 times slower than in Shin Makoku (my comment above). Let's say 1 hour on Earth is equivalent to 5 days in Shin Makoku, 1 day on Earth = 4 months in Shin Makoku. Then after Yuuri came back to Earth from his first trip to Shin Makoku, he spent enough time to get back to baseball, to establish a grass-root baseball team and have Murata join as manager, it must be at least weeks. How much time would have passed in Shin Makoku? Must be months, if not years. And that's why I thought, oh poor Wolfram :-D
( ... )
I think that one Earth hour would be equivalent to 5 Shin Makoku hours rather then 5 days. And 1 day on Earth would be 5 in Shin Makoku
How far are you in the anime? Or have you finished it? Hahaa I don't want to go into too much detail about Shinou if you aren't that far ahead because of spoilers.
Hehe, I've seen/read everything that is available in English, and I don't mind spoilers, seeing that it'll be years, if ever, before all the other novels are translated. Too bad I cant read japanese or chinese or german. What about you?
Hehe... The anime is based on the novels, and even though I do enjoy the cute anime very much, I would not keep high expectations for the anime regarding such details anyway. In a way, KKM has certain similarities with Harry Potter (demon/human vs. wizard/human), and I tend to think the novels would make more sense of things since they have more space than anime/movie. I have read only a few KKM novels that are translated into English, so I don't know if things are explained better in the later novels, but so far it seems to me KKM world is not really well thought out even in the novels, much less than the settings in the Harry Potter series. Probably we should just just keep our eyes "wide shut" here and be happy with the story-telling ;-)
Someone feel free to correct me on this... but I feel like the time difference issues became less dramatic after the Soushu and the boxes were taken care of. I'm not sure what lead me to that conclusion. Possibly we just hit lazy plot. My writer's muse would rather it be caused by Soushu though.
Oh yes, now that you mention Soushu, I remember in the anime, when the boxes have been gathered together, in one of those episodes they did talk about how Soushu power can affect the time difference between Shin Makoku and Earth - in which way, I don't remember :-)

Novel 14 is translated up to chapter 7.
I've found bits of the novels here and there also. Let's exchange our list and see if we miss anything :-)
By the way, how many manga chapters do you have? This is all I have found:
