Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with Windows Based Linux Installations? I'm specifically looking at Wubi right now, but I am aware that there are others. Wubi, specifically, installs a full copy of the Ubuntu OS on a Windows machine the same way it would any other normal program, but allows for booting the machine as a Linux box ( Read more... )

Wubi appears to be a stripped down virtual machine, geared to only ubuntu. If it's ubuntu that you're looking at in the first place, this might not be so bad.

Elsewise, I'd recommend something like VMware. This is the current 'big gorilla' in virtualization right now, and with my account at SCI, I can get you a copy of the Windows server right off.

Basically, VMware (and other similar programs) creates a 'virtual machine' in your Windows install. While VMware will likely take a little more overhead than Wubi, it will allow you to install and run -any- flavor of Linux.
