The Way Clans Work in Naruto (and the impact on advanced bloodlines)

Feb 18, 2005 20:21

I've gotten sort of tired of all the weird interpretations some people have of the Hyuuga clan. Maybe I've just lurked forums too often, and seen too many odd ideas, or I've come across too much fanfiction whose authors make up weird things to fill in the holes that they don't understand ( Read more... )

Ooohhh yay! I'm so glad to see that interpretation! That makes a lot of sense considering that Japan is a patrilineal patrilocal society.

But, it is just one interpretation. I've drawn another conclusion in one of my fics, Rosemary for Remembrance. I have Hanabi unmarked because of some whim of her father's, which allows for lots of juicy angst and competition between the sisters! (Because conflict rocks!) I don't think we should totally discount all the alternative theories on Hyuuga, sometimes people come up with some interesting ideas. ^_^

True, it is only an interpretation. Since most girls are usually married off, it's sort of difficult to say for sure what really happens to them when they can't be. *should have put that in there somewhere ( ... )

Alas, if Hiashi forces the Hyuugacesting, I weep for the future of the Hyuuga line. They'll all become inbred idiots. T T

I don't think incest would be the only practice. Hyuuga would still marry normally with outsiders for the most part, I would imagine (and hope). Every few generations it might be a necessity to keep the Byakugan thriving in the Main House, or to keep the Head of the clan a Hyuuga. But if it was overdone, then yes, there would eventually be problems. :/

Sintari actually wrote an interesting rant/essay thing a while back on incest and the Hyuuga. I didn't go much into incest in this, besides saying it was an option, and she's much better at being informative then I am, so I fully encourage you to check it out.

Wow. I actually sat downa nd read this and feel incredibly enlightened. This is a wonderful interpetation babe. I wanna see you analyze the Uchiha clan now :P. Like exactly how would Sasuke continue his clan, when Itachi is still alive and older. XDDD

If Itachi were to have a bunch of illegitimate children all ove the country, what exactly would happen? What would happen if he claimed one of those kids *cough* and returned to Konoha and was like "Fear Sasuke for I beat you again and had amany Uchihalings to smear in you're face" What then? Would he... be the Uchiha reviver? xP

School me biatch!

Haha, poor Sasuke.... Okay, I'm going with the normal standards to explain this, despite how messed up a state the Uchiha clan is in right now.

From birth, it was known that Itach would become Head of the Main House, and that Sasuke would have to create a Branch House. Sasuke technically isn't heir at all, as much as I like to say he is, because Japanese don't see it like that; they count Itachi's unborn child as successor to his House. It's the members of the House's duty to continue the House, so by general standards, it's assumed Itachi will have children. It's his obligation to have children. (But we all know Itachi is sort of messed up when it comes to family values.)

Now, in the event that there is no child by a wife, it is legitimate for the Head to take a concubine to birth a child to continue the House, and that child would be raised by the wife herself as her own. Since the successor is chosen, whatever illegitimate child Itachi has and recognizes (re: "claimed one of those kids and returned to Konoha") would one day ( ... )

Kinship is very important in the ie, so I fully agree that girls were probably married into the Hyuuga clan regularly in order for Hyuuga to gain those alliances. Hyuuga probably has not only a large clan, but big connections, and some of those connections would be through marriage. That is partly what would make them so powerful. But those are just speculations. :D

Incest is probably a requirement every few generations to ensure the survival of the Byakugan, but I don't think it's the only practice. Hyuuga would still marry normally with outsiders. I would hope.

Haha, you're gonna marry your cousin. ;D

Yeah, I read it, and I've got to agree. It's probably what keeps my from squicking from [well-written] NejiHina fics; the fact that Hiashi matching them up anyway is so probable. Hell, plotbunnies are bothering me to have Hiashi decide to match up Hinata and Neji in-game, regardless of what either of them want. (And I was getting this idea before I started reading Imouto's Hyuugacest WIP.) But, that would totally ruin my NejiTen OTP fun I'm having with istoria. So no NejiHina Hyuugacest in rp_no_jutsu. :P /tangent ( ... )
