Right, so the new plan is quick updates instead of the tomes I've been not-quite-finishing. We'll see if I can stick to that. (Unlikely

I do. I made them sit down and give me estimates yesterday. I will email you... or actually, I plan on finishing up my FAFSA Saturday night or Sunday morning, so perhaps I'll just pdf it and send you a copy, if the FAFSA lets me. Lucky you.
That sounds amazing - I've worn glasses since I was four so can't remember what it's like not to wear them either. And you're spot on about glasses and sports - I have lenses built into my diving mask but it's just annoying for any kind of contact sport or martial art.
If you don't mind me asking, how bad was your vision before? And would you mind giving updates about how it's working for you?
Ah yes. I have multiple facial scars from the exquisite combination of contact sports and glasses.
It IS amazing so far. I wandered half-asleep into the bathroom this morning to put in my contacts, then realized I could see the case sharply already and grinned the whole time I brushed my teeth. I figure the cost of annual contact/glasses exams and lenses will even out with the cost of the surgery, if it continues to go well.
Still good so far! I'll test myself on the eye chart at work on Saturday and let you know how my vision is, but I would estimate it at about 20/30 at the moment. Again, it's supposed to sharpen a bit more as my eyes heal. They don't hurt at all. I just have to remember to put in eye drops to keep them extra moist, and I'm to wear sunglasses for a couple of days. My eyes aren't as light sensitive as they said they'd be, but I'm wearing shades much of the time anyway, just in case it helps.
I was at -4.5 OD and -5.0 OS diopters before. Not blind, but not able to focus more than 10 cm out from my face without
Haha, my Sensei broke my glasses once. I'd bent them out of shape and he offered to fix them. Then said "oops...well, you need to learn how to fight without your glasses anyway."
It's those little things, isn't it - like being able to see when you wake up. Glad to hear that healing is going well.
Unfortunately my eyesight is a bit worse - my worse eye is about -11 and I have astigmatism, so at the moment no responsible laser correction surgery centre would go near my eyes. I'd also like to be more reassured about long term effects. My eyesight may not be perfect, but it's easily correctable - not necessarily the case if surgery goes wrong.
They can do -12, last I checked, fyi. And yes, I thought a bit about the long term, but they've been doing the version I had done for some time now, and anyway, nobody's been blinded by laser eye surgery in this country.
I checked my vision today: about 20/25 or 20/30, as I expected.
