I keep getting asked about what I'm studying this summer, so I thought I'd post my project proposal. It should be fairly readable, as that was one of the requirements for the fellowship application (the reason I wrote this at all). Let me know, though, because if it sounds all right, I will probably poach part of it for the introduction section

Kate, you're like a frickin' genius. You amaze me with your scientific and postcard writing prowess! Thank you so so so so much for the postcards this year. I'm sorry for taking so long to thank you, because you really have no idea how fabulous I felt every time I found one of those in the mail.
Right now my only issue is my gratitude for the cards warring with my envy at all the traveling you've done!
If you make time to come back to us poor Oregonians, let me know so I can take you out for some Lebanese food and some Rimsky's dessert?

Let`s see... the academic calendar says my winter exams this year end as late as the 22nd, so I should still be home in time for your birthday, although it might be just barely. After the celebrations die down, you`re on for dinner and especially dessert. I miss you.

You`re welcome for the cards, of course. You do have to tell me what you`ve been up to in return, though. I demand it.
