I actually assumed that the bet would be something to do with AJ and Brian getting together. In fact, my guess was that Kevin thought there was some potential for something to happened between AJ and Brian, and so was deliberately setting up a situtation to let it happen. You've already told us that Kevin had noticed AJ watching Brian, and also made a point of AJ not being too observant while Kevin does spot things. So it would seem logical if Kevin had also perhaps noticed Brian returning the interest without AJ being aware of it.

that's absolutely the direction i had intended to take it once i figured out what the act would be. my main concern was that people would think kevin was in some way making fun of aj for being bi, even though i think i've made a decent point of proving kevin's o.k. with it. that probably made no sense to you, but these are the things that run through my brain. my unfounded insecurities i suppose. the one thing i never want to do is offend anyone, but i'm always afraid that my writing will do just that. anyway, thanks so much for the feedback and help. it is greatly appreciated!
