It's always baffled me whenever I read in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga that Gozaburo Kaiba only adopted Seto and Mokuba because he lost to Seto in a chess game -- in which Seto cheated in order to win. Based on how most pop-culure presents Chess, I suspect one could easily cheat by simply confidently annoucing "Checkmate!" at random - as in most shows one's opponent seems completly unaware they're in or near check until you say so.
