Buffy/Spike relies on Slayer/Vampire schism
o Buffy is in charge; self-identification and rejection
o Hero because Buffy learns her true self through Spike’s understanding

She gets the Spuffy relationship, doesn't she?

And I would have loved to hear Tami's talk on how amputation = acceptance of hero status for Spike, and Trish's entire presentation (because race in supernatural television is my new obsession, thanks to the Bonnie Bennett stuff).

Oh, and did you know there's a specific TVD panel at SW/T PCA/ACA conference? I'm doing the snoopy dance!

Fanetti is a fucking BAMF, dude. I love her to pieces. And the Adorkable thing is? She's a BAngel. It's my favorite thing.

I'm going to try to remember what exactly Tami said about that...

Trish! OMG TRISH! I have EPIC love for Trish. The presentation wasn't even on race in the works of Joss specifically - but how the Browncoats and other fans react to current events as FANS. And how that culture of Whedon fandom IS a culture of Transnational Feminism. It was so cool. I'm surprised anyone talked to me after her presentation (same panel) because it was so awesome.

Now knowing what the presentation really was about makes me want to see her paper more! I always get bummed reading the Whedon bibliography page because there were so many good papers that I'd love to read, but were never published or only given as presentations :(

It's a huge bummer. But. Slayage? Slayage is bizarre. It really wasnt a collection of finished thoughts. Most of the people I talked to/heard were either
A) in the beginning of their research on a particular topic
Or
B) basically were saying: "This is what we should all write/publish about in the next two years"

I've been told this is abnormal. Slayage felt like a meeting of the minds, a way for people to come together and say "don't forget about!" And "have you thought about it this way?" Except in some ways the Keynotes/Featured Speakers. But even they were a bit more collaborative in their approach than I think typically happens at an Academic Conference
