I currently have a love-hate relationship with Breaking Bad. As I am not opposed to Spoilers at all, but am tired of "OMG THIS IS THE BEST SHOW EVER" ... can someone tell me why I should stick with it?

I think for the sake of Jesse's FACE (2.6 OMG MY HEART) I'm hooked.... but someone should humor me on this: is it really as phenomenal as the hype ( Read more... )

I think it depends on why you watch or what you like best about entertainment. I don't think "Breaking Bad" is for everyone. I see it as a kind of Greek tragedy. It is about how a good man did a bad thing for a good reason. And this poisoned him. This poison then slowly spreads out and poisons everyone around him.

Those kinds of stories are interesting to me because they make me look at the hard choices people make and help me understand how it is people make them. It's a way to vicariously live a kind of life that I would never choose. It's escapism, just to a very dark place.

If you're into that kind of stuff - it's probably your cuppa tea.

I guess - my biggest problem is that I don't see (maybe just not yet) Walter as a "good man" - I feel more like a very flawed and problematic man did a BAD thing and convinced himself that it was for the right reasons, even though it wasn't. What I've noticed so far (I'm around 2.10) is that Walter's perspective is placed at the beginning of the series as the moral line we, the audience, should accept (ex: the party in 1.1 when everyone is teasing Walt, the audience is told "those who love Walt are good people") but this begins to break down SO fast, there's nothing left to hold on to by the end of the first season ( ... )
