Joss

Saw Cabin in the Woods today.

It was pretty damn perfect.

I know that isn't the consensus. I'm totally cool with that.

I had my own issues/doubts. During the credits I literally said: "They really shouldn't give him so much money." I stand by that. Joss has delusions of grandeur - it will be his downfall. We will eventually lose him ( Read more... )

kdramas are crack, joss sceptic

I think you are not at all wrong about losing Joss to his ego. It won't surprise me at all.

And I will definitely be watching Lie to Me at some point. I hear that the show itself is kind of a mess, but I'm more than willing to put up with that if the ship is good, and you have convinced me! (Any comparison to the Ponds means I am THERE.)

LtM:: It IS a bit of a mess - the "love square" makes very little sense and the subplots have *bad* characterization from beginning to end. Right around episode 4/5 you realize that the point - is just to watch Eun-hye and Kang Ji-hwan's chemistry ... almost as if, at a certain point the entire cast/crew threw out the script (metaphorically) and just enjoyed letting these two play together. It's rare that a show is aware of the fact that it only exists because of a ship :)

As someone who unabashedly admits to being a shipper, I am 100% fine when the show is aware of that. It's on my list!

Just to get you excited: there's a character who is an UNABASHED SHIPPER of Eun-hye/herself.

It's like they put me in a K!Drama :)

I liked Cabin in the Woods. Like, a lot. Kinda surprised that other people didn't. But hey, different tastes.

There were a lot of moments where I could almost feel Joss next to me, nudging me: "Do you get the joke? Do you get the joke? Do you get the joke?" ... maybe that's where the dislike is coming from??
(I sort of had a brief moment where I didn't want to like it - just to not give Joss(/Drew) the satisfaction of agreeing with him that he's a Smarty-Pants... but it passed.)

Eh, I was pretty much won over when Tom Lenk came on screen. I'm easy to please, perhaps. :)

I haven't seen it myself yet, so I don't know, but I know a lot of people felt that it was very nihlistic/misanthropic and the worldview kicked them right out of it. But that's just what I've heard.

I loved CitW! I think it's one I'll probably end up picking up on DVD. I'm excited to watch it again, actually.

1. I loved it too! (see my entry from a few days back)

2. That's too bad about the $$$. But OTOH, Joss has been a Marvel fan all his life. He wrote not one but two full-out scripts for comic book movies that ended up going nowhere (X-Men and Wonder Woman). I think The Avengers is the project closer to his heart, money or no.

Joss has delusions of grandeur - it will be his downfall. We will eventually lose him completely to his own Ego.

I'd never considered this, but it sounds very likely. I think I'll let myself enjoy the view and snark about how I was a fan when Whedon was good. I'm a late-blooming hipster.
