Day 23: Favorite Winchester Family Member (Not Sam or Dean)

Though I like Mary, I wouldn't say she'd be favorite. I think I'll have to go with John Winchester. He really wasn't there for the boys as they grew up. In the end he gave up his own life so that Dean could live.

Yes! John is a fascinating and complex character who can't easily be put in a box. I don't see myself ever forgiving him for the events of Something Wicked, but I still count him on my list of loved characters. I hate it when fans try to portray him as a two-dimensional asshole.

For myself, I can't say John, as his neglect of the boys is of such level that he should've had his parental rights taken away. And how he treated Dean is completely unforgiveable and messed Dean up to the point of not knowing who he is or what he wants. It's irriversable damage for Dean ( ... )
